Report context

Three Florida systems, three source-water settings

Tallahassee · 1370655

Floridan Aquifer groundwater and mixed sample years

Tallahassee’s 2025 report describes groundwater from the Floridan Aquifer. Its report tables include older inorganic, radioactive, and residential lead and copper samples alongside 2025 monitoring.

The residential lead and copper table identifies July through September 2023 sampling. Its site-exceedance count and system-level action-level field have different meanings. Keep those distinctions separate from the report’s 2025 title and PFAS narrative.

Tampa · 6290327

Hillsborough River water with a supplemental supply

Tampa’s 2025 report identifies the Hillsborough River as its primary source and describes supplemental stored treated water purchased from Tampa Bay Water.

That report-period description does not establish the source mix at a particular tap today. The system report and its monitoring periods are the right starting point for understanding Tampa’s selected record.

Fort Lauderdale · 4060486

Biscayne Aquifer water and a dated treatment change

Fort Lauderdale’s 2025 report identifies Biscayne Aquifer groundwater and describes the Fiveash and Peele-Dixie treatment plants.

The report says the city discontinued fluoride addition before July 2025, while its fluoride result is dated April 2023. The older sample does not describe the later treatment change. Its residential lead and copper table also uses 2023 samples.

Statewide context

How Florida’s public records fit together

Source water

Different aquifers and a river supply

The selected reports describe Floridan Aquifer groundwater in Tallahassee, Hillsborough River water and a supplemental supply in Tampa, and Biscayne Aquifer groundwater in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale’s source-water assessment concerns potential contamination around its wells. Assessment susceptibility and treated-water monitoring are different measures; neither identifies a household tap result.

Report timing

A 2025 report can contain 2023 samples

Read each table’s sample date, measure, and reporting definition. Tallahassee and Fort Lauderdale both include older lead and copper samples, while other results concern 2025 monitoring.

The selected system profiles retain their July 22, 2026 review date. Their original report-material review was July 19. This state guide’s September 13 review does not reset those dates or establish a new notice outcome.

Official inventory

A 2023 workbook supplies dated identity fields

Florida DEP’s Basic Facility Report page links a workbook labeled Basic Facility Data for 2023. The database guidance explains Florida’s seven-digit PWSIDs.

The workbook’s selected rows contain a PWSID and a Mailing name field. Use them as dated identity evidence, then compare the provider’s report and confirm current details. They are not an address-level service lookup or a current statewide inventory summary.

Official lookup

Find a Florida PWSID in DEP’s facility workbook

Florida DEP

Use the year and exact identifier

Open DEP’s Basic Facility Report page and select Basic Facility Data for 2023. In the Facility Report sheet, the PWSID field is column E and Mailing name is column J.

The reviewed Tallahassee example appears at row 215: PWSID 1370655 and Mailing name TALLAHASSEE, CITY OF. The field is a mailing name, so compare it with the provider and report identity instead of assuming it is an address-service result.

  1. Open the workbook labeled Basic Facility Data for 2023 from DEP’s report page.
  2. In the Facility Report sheet, find the complete seven-digit PWSID 1370655 in the PWSID column.
  3. Compare the Mailing name with the utility’s annual report. Confirm the provider for your address using a bill or direct contact, and ask for current details if needed.

Compare the same fields for Tampa and Fort Lauderdale

The reviewed workbook contains PWSID 6290327 with Mailing name CITY OF TAMPA WATER DEPARTMENT and PWSID 4060486 with Mailing name FORT LAUDERDALE, CITY OF.

DEP’s database guidance was last modified in 2022 and describes an annual update process; that statement does not make the linked 2023 workbook current. If a workbook or report is difficult to open, contact DEP or the utility with the PWSID and the file or report year.

Florida tools for private wells, reports, and service lines

Private wells

Start with the county health department or a certified lab

Florida’s Department of Health recommends at least annual testing for bacteria and nitrate in private wells. Its guidance directs residents to county health departments for sampling instructions, interpretation, and additional tests based on location and land use.

State-certified private laboratories are another testing route. Ask about the appropriate sample containers, collection method, tests, and current fees before collecting water. A public-system annual report does not test a private well.

Lead service lines

Separate pipe records from tap-sampling results

Florida DEP provides service-line inventory guidance and resources. Fort Lauderdale’s 2025 report points to its local inventory and separately describes residential lead and copper sampling.

Ask the provider to confirm the line serving your property and explain unknown materials, testing options, or replacement assistance. An inventory does not supply a tap result, and planned sampling is not a completed result.

Reports and PFAS

Use the report archive and the named sample period

DEP’s public-information resources link consumer confidence report guidance. The selected utility archives provide a direct route to their annual reports; ask the utility for the title and monitoring year or an accessible copy when needed.

Tallahassee’s report includes a separate PFAS discussion and directs readers to the city’s PFAS information. Read the named compounds, sample periods, and table definitions before comparing that discussion with other monitoring results.

Current notices

Follow the provider’s instruction for the affected area

Use the utility’s current dated notice and confirm whether your address is included. An annual report describes a past reporting period, and a previously lifted notice does not establish today’s advisory status.

Fort Lauderdale’s utility resources link AlertFTL alongside its report information. Check what an alert subscription covers and keep the provider’s public notice and contact route available.

Florida questions

Questions raised by these Florida records

Inventory dates

Does finding my PWSID mean the workbook is current?

It confirms that the identifier appears in the reviewed 2023 workbook. It does not update the workbook’s year or establish current service, population, or compliance. Compare it with the utility’s report and confirm current details with the provider.

Sample dates

Why does Fort Lauderdale show an older fluoride sample?

The table dates the fluoride result to April 2023. A separate narrative says the city stopped fluoride addition before July 2025. Preserve both dates; the older result does not measure the effect of the later change.

Water sources

Do Tallahassee and Fort Lauderdale use the same aquifer?

Their selected reports identify different aquifers: the Floridan Aquifer for Tallahassee and the Biscayne Aquifer for Fort Lauderdale. These system-level descriptions do not establish conditions at an individual tap.

Lead results

Is an individual-site exceedance the same as the system field?

No. Tallahassee and Fort Lauderdale present site counts separately from the 90th-percentile result and action-level field. Read the table definitions and sampling period together; a system summary does not replace testing at a particular tap.
