Report context

Three Indiana systems, reports covering 2025

Fort Wayne · IN5202020

St. Joseph River water and two report years

Fort Wayne’s 2026 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report covers 2025 monitoring. It identifies the St. Joseph River as the source treated at the Three Rivers Filtration Plant.

Its lead and copper results separate the two halves of 2025. Its UCMR5 section records PFHxA and PFPeA detections, while a separate statement concerns six regulated PFAS compounds. Those are different groups and should not become a single PFAS conclusion.

Bloomington · IN5253002

Monroe Reservoir and dated plant work

Bloomington’s 2026 annual report also covers 2025. Its source is Monroe Reservoir, also known as Monroe Lake.

The report prints Violations: None while separately describing two treatment-plant deficiencies and repairs expected in fall 2026. It also reports one lead sample site above the action level in its 2023–2025 table. The anticipated repair date is not confirmation that the work is complete.

Elkhart · IN5220008

Groundwater from three wellfields

Elkhart’s 2025 report identifies groundwater from the Northwest, North Main, and South wellfields. It does not identify which wellfield serves an individual address.

The report separates July 2024 UCMR PFAS detections from its 2025 PFAS table. Its lead and copper results, location-specific disinfection-byproduct results, and PFAS results each retain their own dates and measure labels.

Indiana context

Separate report years, measurements, and current instructions

Source comparison

River water, reservoir water, and groundwater

Fort Wayne, Bloomington, and Elkhart illustrate three source settings within Indiana. These are selected system examples, rather than a statewide inventory or evidence of service to an address.

Report timing

A 2026 cover can describe 2025 monitoring

The Fort Wayne and Bloomington report titles use 2026, while their principal reporting period is 2025. Older sample dates and later notices remain separate.

These system profiles retain their August 8, 2026 review date. The state-guide source review on September 13 does not reset their samples, advisories, or improvement schedules.

Result interpretation

A printed violation field has a specific scope

Bloomington’s plant deficiencies and Elkhart’s PFAS sections show why a short table field cannot summarize a full report. Read the substance, measure, sampling period, and explanatory text together.

For a current instruction, use the provider’s latest notice. A historical lifted notice or a report-period No field does not prove that no instruction applies now.

IDEM instructions

Find the system, then choose the record type

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management links Drinking Water Viewer and an illustrated guide. The public viewer offers system-ID and system-name searches, with separate record categories for samples, violations, advisories, lead and copper, and consumer confidence reports.

  1. In Search Hub, enter IN5202020 in Water System ID for the Fort Wayne example, then choose Search.
  2. Open the matching FORT WAYNE - 3 RIVERS FILTRATION PLANT result and confirm IN5202020 on the system detail page.
  3. Choose the relevant record category or detail-page link. Set any applicable date range and keep that range with the results.

Identity check

Keep the system number with the report

The selected records are Fort Wayne IN5202020, Bloomington IN5253002, and Elkhart IN5220008. Their report formats do not all print the state prefix in the same way.

The full-ID search returned one matching Fort Wayne record in this review. If the viewer is unavailable or a name is ambiguous, use the provider’s report archive and ask the provider or IDEM to confirm the system. Finding the identity record does not establish a current compliance or advisory result.

Indiana tools for testing, PFAS, and notices

Private wells

Start with testing and a certified laboratory

The Indiana Department of Health recommends at least annual private-well testing. Its guidance links certified drinking-water laboratories and local or county health departments.

Ask which tests fit your well and follow the laboratory’s collection instructions. A public-system report cannot supply a result for a private well.

PFAS

Keep the sampling project and report dates attached

IDEM’s PFAS page describes a phased public-water-system sampling project and links its sampling resources. Different phases cover different systems and source settings.

For the selected utilities, keep Fort Wayne’s UCMR5 findings, Bloomington’s 2023–2024 UCMR statement, and Elkhart’s 2024 and 2025 sections distinct. A result for one list of compounds does not answer for every PFAS compound.

Notices

Check the provider’s instruction and affected area

IDEM’s guidance distinguishes boil-water advisories from discolored-water events. It explains that utilities may use several notification methods and that no single method reaches everyone.

Report discolored water directly to your utility. For an advisory, use the provider’s current notice and confirm its affected area and instructions; do not infer current status from an older annual report.

Lead and service lines

Ask for the inventory and testing guidance

Elkhart’s report describes a service-line inventory and explains that records can change as new information becomes available or lines are visually verified. It also offers a route to request tap-sampling data.

Ask your own provider about the service line serving your property and any testing or replacement process. A report’s system-level inventory cannot determine your tap result.

Indiana questions

Questions raised by these reports

Report years

Which year should I use for Fort Wayne and Bloomington?

Use 2025 when referring to the principal monitoring period and 2026 when identifying the report title. Keep any older table dates, later notices, and planned work dates separate.

Plant work

Does Bloomington’s fall 2026 plan mean the repairs are complete?

No. The report describes expected work on backwash equipment. Completion requires a later statement or record from the utility; the planned date alone does not establish it.

PFAS scope

Why do Fort Wayne’s PFAS statements look different?

The report discusses the compounds tested under UCMR5 separately from six regulated PFAS compounds. Read the compound list and sampling context before comparing the statements.

Report access

What if I cannot open the provider’s report?

Start at the official utility archive and request the report by title and monitoring year, including an accessible copy if needed. Fort Wayne, Bloomington, and Elkhart use different document hosts, so a failed link is not evidence of missing monitoring.
