Three South Carolina reports show different supply arrangements
Barnwell · SC0610001
Groundwater from municipal wells
Barnwell’s 2025 report describes groundwater supplied through municipal wells. Its source description belongs to the public system identified as SC0610001.
The report’s 2023 copper row includes a sample above the action level while printing No in the violation field. Read the dated row and its sample context together; it is not a current household result.
Camden · SC2810001
Surface water from Lake Wateree
Camden’s 2025 report identifies Lake Wateree as its source. Its tables include different sampling periods, including 2024 unregulated-contaminant monitoring.
The report year does not make every row a 2025 measurement or a current result at a home.
Folly Beach · SC1010005
Purchased water with a separate supplier ID
Folly Beach’s 2025 report describes purchasing treated surface water from Charleston Water System. Folly Beach is SC1010005; the supplier is SC1010001.
Those identifiers distinguish the retail system and its supplier. They do not make every table in the report attributable to both systems.

Reviewed coverage
Three existing system reports provide local examples
The reviewed selection includes Barnwell groundwater, Camden’s Lake Wateree supply, and Folly Beach’s purchased water. These examples describe different systems; they do not measure South Carolina’s statewide source mix.
PFAS sampling
The state separates surface-water and groundwater results
SCDES publishes separate PFAS sampling resources for community systems using surface water and groundwater. The results page describes a 2020–2023 sampling effort and carries an April 17, 2024 update date.
Keep the study period and sample category with a result. An older statewide sampling resource is not a current test of every household supply.
Service-line records
Inventory material and water samples answer different questions
SCDES’s lead resources include service-line inventory guidance and notification templates for water systems. Folly Beach’s report separately directs customers to the provider for its inventory.
Ask your supplier about the recorded material and any unknown entry for your connection. A material category does not measure lead at your tap.

Worked example
Find Barnwell using its full system ID
A reviewed exact-ID search for SC0610001 returned BARNWELL TOWN OF. The detail record confirms the same ID and name, Barnwell County, and a groundwater source code.
A city name or nearby water facility cannot establish which system serves an address.
- Enter SC0610001 in the Water System No. field.
- Choose Search.
- Open BARNWELL TOWN OF and confirm the full PWSID.
- Choose the record category and dates only after confirming your supplier.
Record questions
Set the sample period before comparing records
Drinking Water Watch says sample searches default to the last two years unless dates are supplied. An older annual-report sample may therefore require a different search period.
If a record or category is missing, ask the provider or SCDES drinking-water program for help identifying it. Keep the system ID, sample date, and measure with the question.

Current instructions
Check the notice issuer, affected area, and dates
SCDES publishes boil-water emergency information. For an active concern, use your supplier’s current message and confirm which connections or area it covers.
Ask the supplier how it distributes alerts. An annual report or this state guide cannot establish whether a notice applies now.
Lead information
Choose the resident question before the technical document
SCDES’s lead page combines drinking-water information with operator inventory and notification resources. Use it to frame a question about your service line, water testing, or the provider’s notification.
Templates intended for water systems are not personalized notices about your home.
Private-well testing
Confirm which sample services are accepting submissions
SCDES’s residential-well testing page describes separate kits for coliform bacteria and metals/minerals. It also posts a pause in metals/minerals sample intake from June 1 to October 1, 2026. Check the current availability and collection instructions before collecting a sample.
The department says it does not regulate private-well water quality. A nearby public-system report cannot replace testing your own supply.
PFAS results
Keep the sampling period with the result
Use SCDES’s PFAS sampling page to choose the relevant surface-water or groundwater resource. Confirm the system ID, sampling date, and type of sample before comparing it with an annual report.
This guide does not turn the study tables into current compliance findings or household results.
Common questions
Questions these South Carolina records can help answer
Purchased water
Which report should a Folly Beach customer start with?
Start with the retail supplier shown on the bill. Folly Beach is SC1010005 and purchases water from Charleston Water System, SC1010001. Supplier information can add context, but the two identities remain separate.
Sampling dates
Does a 2025 annual report contain only 2025 samples?
No. Camden’s report includes 2024 unregulated-contaminant monitoring, and other tables can use older sample periods. Read the date attached to each row.
Private wells
Can I assume both state laboratory kits are available now?
No. SCDES’s testing page includes a dated metals/minerals intake interruption. Check current service availability, the test you need, and sample instructions before collecting water.
