Three Tennessee reports describe distinct source waters
Memphis · TN0000450
Groundwater from the Memphis Sand Aquifer
Memphis Light, Gas and Water’s 2025 report identifies the Memphis Sand Aquifer as its groundwater source. The system ID is TN0000450.
This is public-system source context, not a result for an individual private well or household tap.
Knoxville · TN0000366
Tennessee River water treated at the Whitaker plant
Knoxville Utilities Board’s 2025 report describes Tennessee River water treated at its Mark B. Whitaker Water Plant. Use TN0000366 to distinguish KUB’s record from other suppliers in the area.
The report’s source description does not establish a particular household’s service connection.
Murfreesboro · TN0000491
Two named surface-water sources
Murfreesboro’s 2025 report identifies the East Fork of Stones River and J. Percy Priest Lake. Its annual tables include rows from different sampling years.
The report discusses a 2023 lead sample above the action level and a later retest. Both belong to that dated report context; the retest is not a current resolution finding.

Review methodologyStatewide context
Separate supply, annual reporting, and daily updates
Reviewed coverage
Groundwater and river supplies appear in the selected reports
Memphis’s aquifer supply differs from KUB’s Tennessee River supply and Murfreesboro’s river-and-lake sources. These three systems provide useful examples without describing Tennessee’s statewide source mix.
Publication timing
An annual report and a weekday update serve different purposes
Murfreesboro publishes a daily water-quality resource alongside its annual report. The daily page describes weekday posting of selected operating measures; it is not a replacement for the annual tables and their individual sample dates.
Service-line information
The state links a separate inventory viewer
TDEC’s lead-and-copper resources include 2024 service-line inventory information and a Lead Service Line Viewer. Those material records answer a different question from a water-quality sample.
Ask the supplier about the record for your connection and how an unknown material can be checked.

Public records
Start with the supplier and its complete system ID
TDEC’s water-data directory links public Drinking Water Watch. In the reviewed search, TN0000450 returned one matching MEMPHIS LIGHT, GAS, & WATER record. Its detail page identifies Shelby County and a groundwater source code.
Keep the full ID with the record date and category. City or county context does not prove address-level service.
- Open Water System Name & No. and use the Inclusive filter. Enter TN0000450 in Search (Enter), then press Enter.
- Select the TN0000450 MEMPHIS LIGHT, GAS, & WATER checkbox and choose Apply.
- Close the filter with Escape, then open Water System Detail.
- Confirm the full PWSID and provider name before choosing a record category or date range.
Tool purpose
The laboratory submission portal is a different service
TDEC’s Compliance Monitoring Data Portal is for laboratory reporting and data submissions. It is separate from the public drinking-water lookup.
For resident questions, start with the public viewer, your provider’s annual report, or TDEC’s drinking-water program. Ask for help if the needed record is missing or unclear.

Annual reports
Get the source report from the provider
These official provider pages offer the reviewed 2025 reports. Ask the provider for an accessible copy or help with a table when needed.

Provider updates
Keep Murfreesboro’s daily measures separate from notices
Murfreesboro’s daily page describes weekday updates for chlorine, hardness, fluoride, turbidity, and pH. It also distinguishes testing through treatment from sampling in the distribution system.
Selected operational measures do not establish current notice status. For an advisory, ask your supplier for the affected area, dates, and current instructions.
Service-line materials
Use TDEC’s inventory resources with your utility
The lead-and-copper page links the state’s service-line viewer, inventory information, and supporting resources. Ask your utility which portions of the connection its record describes and what to do with an unknown entry.
An inventory category does not establish a lead concentration at your tap.
Private wells
Arrange testing for the supply you actually use
TDEC’s well-water guidance covers private-supply construction, maintenance, and testing. Use it to identify the appropriate testing and local-help pathway.
A public-system report or regional aquifer description cannot substitute for samples from your own supply.
Laboratory scope
Confirm the laboratory is certified for the requested analysis
TDEC lists commercial and microbiological drinking-water laboratories. Ask about the particular analyte, method, collection kit, and delivery requirements before collecting water.
A laboratory’s presence on one list does not establish that it offers every test.
Common questions
Questions these Tennessee resources can help resolve
Record selection
Can I use a Knoxville city name instead of the provider ID?
A city name can help orient a search, but use the supplier on the bill and the full system ID. KUB’s record is TN0000366; a nearby supplier’s records may describe a different system.
Report timing
Does Murfreesboro’s daily page replace its annual report?
No. The daily resource describes selected weekday operating measures. The annual report contains broader reporting context and tables with their own sample periods.
Tool selection
Should residents use the Compliance Monitoring Data Portal?
That portal is for laboratory reporting and data submissions. Start with public Drinking Water Watch, the provider’s report, or the drinking-water program for a resident records question.
